QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Quincy Notre Dame is getting set to take the floor as back-to-back state champions, but that doesn't mean anything is taken for granted.

Head coach Eric Orne will admit that early in a season there are always some question marks.

"Are we going to be able to use our full court press and benefit from that?  Is the size differential that we don't have this year going to really impact us, and is our five guard offense going to have success," Orne expressed.

"Those are things we're going to try to figure out in the first couple of weeks and take it from there."

The good news at 10th & Jackson?

The Lady Raiders appear to have many more answers than questions.

An elite core returns, starting with first team all-staters Jordan Frericks and Kassidy Gengenbacher.

Building depth from there could be the difference maker down the stretch.

"It's really important, because we can't just have the five starters out there the whole game," said senior forward Jordan Frericks.

"We need a bench, and we need those girls coming in with the same intensity that the starters have at the beginning of the game."

Experience mixed with young talent and new faces has seemed to help early on.

"The leaders on team are making them feel welcome, letting them know how we play," senior guard Kassidy Gengenbacher told WGEM Sports.

"I think they'll do good as long as they're comfortable."

The final pieces to the puzzle may take time to sort out, but championships are not won over night.

That process is nothing new within this program.

"We've got some young kids that are going to play a big role, and from that standpoint its exciting," said Eric Orne.

"At the same time there are going to be some growing pains, and we'll just take them as they come, but we want to be good at the end of the year in February."

The Lady Raiders will open their season at West Hancock on Wednesday, November 20th.
