WIU soccer heads to Northwestern for NCAA College Cup

MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -- Western Illinois is making NCAA Tournament appearances an annual occurrence.

For the second consecutive year the Leathernecks have made the field thanks to Sunday's Summit League title.

The team met at The Sports Corner in Macomb on Monday night to watch the selection show.

Western will visit Big Ten co-champ Northwestern on Thursday night in an effort to advance past the first round for the first time.

"It doesn't matter who you play first," Leathernecks head coach Dr. Eric Johnson said.

"This is the time of year where you've just got to win. Any one of those teams on that board can beat you and you can beat any one of those teams if you make big plays."

Western is winless in five previous NCAA Tournament games.

First kick in Evanston is set for 7 p.m.
