Quincy police targeting drunk drivers thanks to STEP grant

Quincy drivers, you'll be sharing the roadways with even more cops this holiday season, thanks to a grant received from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The STEP Grant will pay for overtime to put more officers on patrol to target drunk drivers. QPD officers will not only be on the look out for impaired drivers, but for seat belt AND speeding violations, something police say they see more of this time of year.

"We'd prefer not to have to write any tickets and just have everybody drive safely. We'd like to encourage motorists to buckle up and also encourage them to either find alternative methods of travel or use designated drivers to make their traveling more safe," Curtis Kelty, Deputy Chief of Operations for the Quincy Police Department, said.

Officers will be conducting extra check points through out the holidays as well.
