Hannibal's Kay Gieseke signed her national letter of intent with the Drury University swim program on Wednesday morning.
HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -- One of the more accomplished female athletes in the Hannibal senior class took the next step in her swimming career by signing her national letter of intent on Wednesday morning.
Sprint specialist Kay Gieseke picked NCAA Division II national power Drury University.
Gieseke, who's also seen plenty of success in two other sports, says she's ready for what the next level has to offer.
"I'll be racing against really fast girls and I'm not used to that, not yet anyway's. I think it will make me work harder," she explained.
"I've been swimming for the last 12 years now and it's kind of hard to think of not being able to do it, along with the other sports. But it's more of a part of me than the others."
Gieseke plans to swim in both the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events at Drury.
She indicated the school's chiropractic program was also a major reason behind her decision.
