Illinois Governor Pat Quinn honored more than 30 volunteer groups Thursday night with his hometown awards.
And the Gem City is recognized for its efforts.
The Governor's hometown awards aim to recognize volunteer groups for their work and dedication to improving their communities.
City officials formed a committee and worked to bring a salvaged piece of the world trade center from the 9/11 attacks to the gem city. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of that tragic event and that's what garnered the award.
The steel artifact, which now stands in front of city hall, was designed in Quincy by the Harris corporation.
