This week in Quincy, Jefferson Street between 7th and 8th streets will be closed due to the demolition and removal of a building.
The particular house being removed at 701 Jefferson was on the city's "Fix or Flatten" list. The house was looked at in the court system and was deemed unsafe.
Before the building was knocked down, it was vacant, the utilities were shut off, taxes weren't being paid, and it was open to the public.
"On top of that, the north wall was separating from the house, thus causing a threat to the neighborhood," Quincy Planning Director Chuck Bevelheimer said.
There are about 12 houses on the "Fix or Flatten" list. All the buildings are looked at in the court system and it usually takes 4-6 months to get a verdict.
Jefferson Street in Quincy between 7th Street and 8th Street will be closed from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The closure is scheduled to last through Friday, Dec. 7.
