Hannibal officials open Stardust Drive extension

Stardust Drive officially open Monday, connecting U.S. 61 to Veterans Road.

The project has been discussed since 2007, and started construction in 2010. The two lane road is believed to have helped with economic development in the area as city officials say more people are interested in the empty lots.

But Hannibal City Engineer Mark Rees says he's happy to see this complete.

"Well you can see the empty developable property around," Rees said. "The owners of this property have talked to us on several occasions and indicated interest in development, and those plans can now be finalized with the new street."

Rees also says the city and traffic committee will monitor traffic and put in speed bumps on Stardust Drive.
