Quincy's Blessed Sacrament School is the first Catholic school in the nation to receive the coveted Franklin Covey Leader in Me Lighthouse Award.
Blessed Sacrament is also the only Lighthouse school in Illinois.
The award is the highest honor from the Franklin Covey group, recognizing the commitment to teaching the "7 Habits of Highly Effective Individuals."
Principal Christine Reichert says they introduced the leadership program seven years ago and it's had a profound effect on their students.
"To treat each other better. But also to be leaders in regards to doing homework, communicating, getting things done, and even service to our community. That's something we've really been focusing on too. So it's just a great honor for the kids, the families, the teachers and we're just thrilled," said Reichert.
Reichert says the next step is to help bring the habits to other area schools.
A formal presentation of the Lighthouse award will be presented next month.
