MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -
Western Illinois University has installed a 70 foot wind turbine on campus that will serve not only as a renewable energy source, but also as a classroom!
The wind turbine and tower sits just west of Western's Harry Mussatto Golf Course and will provide 200 kilowatts of power a month.
Officials say it will be an on-site learning experience for high school and junior high students from across the state.
The project is part of the Illinois Wind for Schools program and was primarily funded by a $28,000 grant.
