Local firefighters go shopping for Salvation Army's Angel Trees

Some Quincy Firefighters were in the giving and shopping mood Thursday morning to buy some of the toy requests left on the Salvation Army's Angel Tree.

More than a dozen firefighters from Quincy Firefighters Local 63 and their families picked up around 30 angel tags from the tree at Wal-Mart.

Then it was up to them to round the isles looking for clothes, toys and other Christmas goodies.

"It's a way for us to give back to the community but, on a selfish note we really get a lot out of this too...knowing what it goes for," said Capt. Mark Bigelow.

The items bought Thursday will be given to the Salvation Army, who then distributes the gifts to area families next week.

The Salvation Army Toy Town distribution will take place on Wednesday, December 19th and Thursday, December 20th at the old Quincy Discount Carpet building located at 224 South 8th in Quincy.
