Quincy police officials said they see domestic violence all year, including during the holiday season.
Officials said the close quarters of many families members can cause tension, and may lead to domestic issues.
Police officials said there are some ways to avoid unnecessary violence during the holidays.
"The best way to prevent a domestic situation is to recognize when it is about to turn violent and then if you sense it is going to turn violent it is best to remove yourself from the situation. It is important to know your limitations and if you feel like you have reached your limitations you should remove yourself from the situation," said Sergeant Doug VanderMaiden.
If you have been a victim of domestic violence you are urged to call 9-11 immediately.
