Twas the day before Christmas - and yes, the shops are still busy.
Store owners around Quincy stayed open to accommodate those last minute shoppers.
Betty Nielsen at "Gifts by Grawe" says it's been a busy holiday season, but this particular Christmas Eve Day -
"This year it's been busier."
Nielsen says they're dedicated to helping that steady stream of shoppers find a gift that their loved ones won't only like - they'll treasure. For one couple - that gift came in the form of pink and blue balloons - because tonight - as a gift to their families - they are making a very special announcement.
"We are going to reveal the gender of our baby to our families tonight - as a Christmas gift. So we're gonna give them a blue balloon to kind of them throw them a loop, and then after they get past the blue balloon, they're going to find all the pink ones and it will reveal that it's a little girl," said father to be Kyle Beckman.
Meanwhile across town - workers at Sturhahn Jewelers also say the week before Christmas is one of their busiest weeks of the year. They see some engagement ring sales, but owner Steve Sturhahn says anything diamond is always a winner for the ladies - because he says it's a sentimental gift.
"it's something that's special, it's something that - a lot of times, people are practical, they get things for Christmas that they need to have, so it's nice to get something that's just a because gift," he said.
Shoppers also flocked to the Quincy Mall. Some said - this wasn't normally how they handled their holiday shopping.
"I'm usually pretty quick, but this year, I don't know. I had a lot of stuff to do," said one shopper.
But shoppers say they got in and got out without a problem...and were now ready to start celebrating.
Officials at the Quincy Mall say they will be open for holiday business hours on Christmas Eve, from 8am to 5pm, and then are closed on Christmas day.
