Hannibal Regional Hospital encourages skin care during winter

Winter weather can be brutal on our skin.  Health officials at Hannibal Regional Hospital said skin tends to get dry and irritated in the winter, which can cause infections, especially for the elderly.

Nurse practitioner Kim Peters has a few tips to take care of your skin.  She said use moisturizers and don't take showers more than needed.

"If you're prone to dry skin try not to take a bath or a shower everyday. Try to limit it to every other day and in between time just try to washing where you absolutely have to. Try to avoid the big areas of the skins," Peters said.

Peters also says parents should keep a close eye on their children's skin as well.  It gets dry just as easily as an adults.
