Colchester seeing water main breaks at alarming rate

The City of Colchester, Illinois is dealing with a rash of water main breaks.  Mayor Danny Bice said he's never seen anything like it before.  The city has had four water main breaks in recent weeks before that, there hadn't been one in two years.

Like many cities dealing with the same problem, the drought combined with aging pipes are to blame for so many water line breaks.  Bice said the city will apply for a grant to help with repairs and upgrades to the pipes.

"We'll just have to keep putting saddles and clamps on. We don't have the money to do it our self. You know these small towns are kind of limited on the funds they have," Bice said.

Bice said if they don't receive the grant, they'll continue to repair the breaks as best they can.
