QPS announce a fix to the bread shortage

Quincy kids no longer have to worry about getting a hamburger bun or hot dog bun at lunch time after Quincy Public Schools announces a fix to the bread shortage.

The district was left scrambling in November 2011 with the announcement of Hostess Brands Inc. closing it's doors.

Now the district has decided to go with Sara Lee Bread to help fill the immediate bread needs.

But, they are still taking bids from vendors who want to supply bread for the remainder of the school year.

"We've really struggled but now that we have an in between fix that's wonderful, we are very happy with that in between fix. But, we'll be even more happy when we have a permanent solution," said Jean Kinder, Director of Food Services for QPS.

Kinder says the prices are comparable to what they were seeing before the shortage. She hopes a bid will be decided on by February 2013.
