Hannibal looking at future of flood buyout properties

Hannibal city officials are looking for your ideas on what to do with several flood buyout properties.

They're hosting an open house on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Hannibal City Council chambers. The locations they will be discussing are the old Display Center, Gordon Street, and South Main.

These flood prone areas have been targeted for recreational use only. So if it does flood, buildings and people aren't in danger.

"We would like to build a regulation size ball field at the Display Center. We also just want to have some open green space areas that people can use at South Main. Gordon Street we would like to maybe have a walking path and wild flowers and things like that., " Aron Lee, Recreational Supervisor said.

Lee says after the open house they want to get with their engineering firm within a couple of weeks to finalize the plans and get started on groundwork.
