A new MRI machine at Blessing Hospital is aiming to cut back on patient anxieties.
The new half a million dollar Extremity MRI from GE Healthcare takes exams of the arm or the leg, including elbow, wrist, hand, knee, ankle, and foot.
And, instead of patients having to go inside a camped machine, the new magnet just takes shots of the part being examined.
Candy Trettle, the Director of Radiology at Blessing Hospital, says the new machine brings convenience and a relaxing atmosphere for the patient.
"We have a television in the room, which is completely unheard of if you had an MRI of the whole body," said Trettle. "A TV where you can come in and bring you favorite DVD and we'll let you watch TV while you have your scan done."
Plus, it's something Trettle says is unique to the Tri-State area.
"There's nothing in proximity to Quincy, Illinois that offers this. So, we really feel it's very innovative for our community and very unique and we're very excited to be able to add it to our wonderful imaging capabilities at the hospital," said Trettle.
The machine is available for patient use Tuesday through Friday.
