The Spoon River College Faculty Association approved the filing of an Intent to Strike notice during a Jan. 11 meeting, according to a news release.
Faculty members have been in negotiations for a new contract since August of 2012 and even after bringing in a mediator, the two sides remain in disagreement on several items including salary, insurance and professional advancement.
"These months of negotiations and even the recent mediated sessions have not provided us with acceptable contract terms," SRCFA President Stacy Swanson said in the statement, "and unfortunately we now feel it is time to plan for the possibility of a walkout."
The faculty association filed the notice with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, the College President's Office, the SRC Board of Trustees and the Regional Superintendent of Education and will be able to strike after 10 days of the filing.
"The board of trustees is committed to negotiating an agreement that is acceptable for both sides," Spoon River College President Curt Old field told WGEM News.
Spoon River College is based out of Canton, Ill. and has locations in Macomb and Rushville.
The next mediated session between the two sides is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 22.
