HRH asking people with flu like symptoms to avoid visiting loved ones

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

Hannibal Regional Hospital is urging some people to avoid visiting their loved ones, and the flu is to blame.  Officials are asking people who have the flu or flu-like symptoms to stay away. Health experts say it's to protect patients who are already dealing with some type of illness.

"But they're at higher risk for getting complications from influenza such as pneumonia or you know some of the high risk groups have certain medical conditions and getting influenza can basically make those illnesses worse," said Infection Preventionist Mary Bennett.

Bennett adds, if you're experiencing flu like symptoms, contact your doctor or visit the ER right away.
