The Quincy Public School District has been without a superintendent since July of last year.
Tomorrow the board continues its search by interviewing several more candidates.
The board has offered the position to at least one candidate but no final deal was reached.
Dickerson says the board is looking for a perfect fit and he says he's not discouraged.
"It's just a process that takes due diligence and it does take a lot of time on the board's part," said Dickerson, "But mostly we want to make sure that we get the right fit for Quincy so that we can have someone who will be satisfied and we'll be satisfied they can move the district forward."
Dickerson says the right candidate has to have strong leadership characteristics to be able to build a new team and work with the board.
A lot of that new team is referring to the board itself. In April it will be getting some new board members.
The board has already done several interviews. At least one candidate was offered the position but both sides could not come to terms.
What has been the biggest obstacle in coming to an agreement?
"There's a lot of opportunities for superintendents and number two, if other school districts are able to pay more from a standpoint of compensation then that makes it difficult sometimes to find someone," said Dickerson.
That's sent the school board right back to square one. After months of search they still need to find someone for the permanent position and fill the interim spot in about two weeks. Dickerson sat down with WGEM and shared a little bit of what the board is looking for.
"We're going to need someone who's got the strong leadership characteristics to be able to build a new team," said Dickerson.
If it can find someone with experience in all those things who it feels like would be a good fit for the school district and vice versa, then the board will decide where to go from there with that candidate.
Tomorrows interviews are for either an interim or a full-time superintendent.
The current interim superintendent, Cal Lee is leaving at the end of this month.
It makes that search more crucial right now, but Dickerson says he does hope to have someone in the permanent position by the start of the upcoming school year.
