The effort to extend a popular walking and biking trail in Quincy got a big boost Tuesday.
Quincy's Rotary Club donated $108,000 to the Friends of Trails in Quincy. The group plans to use the money to build the next section of the Cedar Creek Trail from 12th to 5th Street.
Right now, the asphalt covered trail runs from 18th to 12th Street.
"This is a tremendous boost to our fundraising program to be donated to by the rotary club to recognize the importance in this community and I think it get's us a long way towards our goal right at the very beginning of our campaign," Terry Anastas, Vice Chairman for Friends of the Trails, said.
Organizers hope to one day complete the entire trail from Bonansinga Drive to 36th street. Anastas says they still have to raise $200,000 before the project can continue.
