Hannibal man sentenced to 25 years in prison for sexual assault

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

A Hannibal man is sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping a woman at knifepoint.

Melvis Palmer, 37, pleaded guilty to assault and sexual assault.

He was arrested in September 2011 after a woman being treated at the hospital told police a man held a knife to her throat and raped her.

Palmer was previously convicted of sodomy in Pike County, Missouri in 1995.
