It was a cold day Saturday, but for some people in Hannibal it was downright freezing.
But it was all for a good cause.
Around 50 people took a nice little swim in the Mississippi River for the annual Polar Plunge. Mary Lynne Richards with Hannibal Parks and Rec says it might have been cold, but at least it was just a quick dip, and they had a great time with it.
All of the people participating were raising money for Special Olympics.
"Special Olympics needs money for their travel expenses, for their uniforms, for their sports equipment. We have 500 Special Olympians in the state of Missouri and right now five basketball teams are playing here in Hannibal. So they are traveling and doing a lot of playing all around the state," she said.
This is the third year for the Polar Plunge in Hannibal, and Richards says this was an especially cold year.
