The Ralls County Sheriff's Office is on the move.
In the next few weeks workers will be moving out of the historic limestone building built in the 1870s. The old jail was condemned many years ago and Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie says the building is just hard to take care of.
Dinwiddie and his deputies will make a short move across the lot to the old Department of Family Services Building in New London.
"Our space is probably two and a half times here than what we have in our other building. It's all on one level," Dinwiddie said. "It's all well-insulated. Good windows. It's a nice building and we were lucky to get it and thank the commissioners for that."
The new building won't have a jail.. but it does have plenty of office space, rooms for interviewing, evidence, conferences.
Dinwiddie says he hopes to be moved by February 15.
