QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
Quincy Public Schools has selected its next Interim Superintendent as the district looks for a permanent hire.
QPS Board President Bill Daniels says that Joel Murphy, Business Manager for QPS, will assume the role as Interim Superintendent beginning Feb. 4. The hire is pending board approval.
While Murphy is in the Interim Supt. role, the district will hire an interim Business Manager to fulfill those regular duties.
"While Joel serves as our Interim Superintendent, he will also retain oversight responsibility for the Business office," Daniels said in a news release Thursday. "Since there is too much work for one person to do both jobs, we will retain the services of an interim Business Manager on an as needed basis."
Murphy will be paid $665 per day as he serves in the Interim Supt. role. Murphy has held the Business Manager position since July 2012 and has 20 years of central office administration experience in St. Charles, Yorkville, Oswego, Crystal Lake and Plainfield.
Murphy replaces current Interim Supt. Cal Lee, who was hired for a 100-day contract beginning on Sept. 17.
The district interviewed potential candidates for a permanent hire in December and made an offer to one candidate, but the two sides were unable to finalize a contract agreement.
The district has been without a permanent superintendent since Lonny Lemon resigned last spring.
