The Quincy Public School District has hired a new leader.
The 6-month nationwide search for a new permanent superintendent is finally over. The QPS School announced Friday afternoon that Steven Cobb will serve as the new permanent superintendent.
And as for his plans for the schools district? Quite honestly, he says, he isn't sure yet.
He's using the first month or so here to assess the district's situation.
"The fact is it's really gathering information and see what direction this school board wants to go and strategic planning," said Cobb.
And all eyes were on Cobb as he waited for the school board to announce his appointment as the district's new superintendent. School Board President Bill Daniels says choosing Cobb for the job,was a no-brainer.
"It's his background it's his experience, he talks about honesty, and being straight forward and it comes through," said Daniels.
Daniels says Cobb's four years of experience as the assistant superintendent at the Ft. Wayne Indiana School district, a district nearly four times the size of Quincy, made him even more valuable.
"He has the experience we were looking for, strength in curriculum, so I think I really believe we've found the right individual," said Daniels.
Cobb believes he's found the right district for him.
"All I can tell you is what a great community and for someone who lives in Quincy there's so many things you take for granted, someone coming in from the outside, all I can say is what a wonderful community," said Cobb.
Current Business Manager Joel Murphy will be taking over as Interim Superintendent until Cobb's contract starts.
Cobb will start July 1 making a salary of $180,000 a year.
