Illinois Department of Insurance issues warning to homeowners

A warning from the Illinois Department of Insurance to home owners.

It's alerting consumers that Arkidus Home Protection, a Florida based company, has been unlawfully marketing home warranty services to Illinois residents over the Internet.

According to the state, the company never legally became certified to sell home warranties in Illinois, but continued to do so.

Sherry Hills, a broker with Davis & Frese Realtors in Quincy, tells homeowners to stay away from online services, because it's just too risky.

"You don't know who you're dealing with. Is it a reputable company? You give them the money and then if you do have an issue with an appliance they don't stand behind the warranty, and then you're calling a 1-800 number and getting someone that doesn't speak English," said Hills.

If you have any questions or if you've recently purchased home warranty insurance from Arkidus Home Protection-- Visit the Illinois Department of Insurance's website.
