HANNIBAL, MO. (WGEM) -- Hannibal senior quarterback Dalton Powell signed his letter of intent with Truman State on Friday.
The two year starter led the Pirates to 18 wins over his tenure, and left an even bigger impression in the classroom, where he leaves Hannibal high school scoring a 34 on his ACT's.
Powell says he wasn't originally planning on playing football at the next level, but when Truman came calling, it was an offer he couldn't refuse..
"I really wasn't contemplating playing football until the coaches expressed interest in me when I went on a visit up there," Powell told WGEM Sports.
"Once football got involved it was really icing on the cake."
"I was more expecting to go up there and have a normal student experience, but I'm really honored to have a chance to continue my academic and sports career."
Powell hopes to play quarterback for the Bulldogs, but says he would gladly adjust to any position that would get him on the field.
Truman State recently became one of the newest members of the GLVC Conference, officially starting this fall.
