The only lighted softball field in Hannibal is due for an upgrade.
The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department has received approval for an engineering study this summer to help make the field at Huckleberry Park more accessible.
Director Andy Dorian says that for years, rain has caused major problems because of how water drains off of the hillside right next to the field.
Dorian hopes to extend the retaining wall, improve the playing field and put in new asphalt.
"But it's one of the things where I know Hannibal citizens want to be proud of their parks and proud of their facilities," Dorian said. "And sometimes upgrades need to be made. Everything has a life span and some of these areas have met their life spans."
Construction could start in mid August or the first of September and should take about a month to complete.
