LEE COUNTY, Ia. (WGEM) -

As construction continues on the new billion dollar fertilizer plant in Lee County, a new grant will help improve rural roads in the area.

The Iowa Transportation Commission has awarded nearly $5 million to help reconstruct nearly three miles of roadway near Wever.

The project includes 180th Street, 360th Avenue and County Road J 50. The work is expected to be complete by next year.

The fertilizer plant is projected to open in 2015.
