How would medicaid expansion affect HRH

A proposal to expand the Medicaid program in Missouri could provide some much needed funding for hospitals.  Right now, state Lawmakers are deciding whether to expand coverage to Missourians.  Hannibal Regional Healthcare System President and CEO Todd Ahrens said if passed, thousands of additional Northeast Missourians could be accepted.  Ahrens said medicaid expansion could help the hospital offset costs from payments lost under the Affordable Care Act.

" We might be able to make up 75 percent of that costs by having medicaid eligibility expanded so we can capture some payment for the provision of care to those individuals," Ahrens said.

In 2011, Missouri Hospitals provided more than one billion dollars in uncompensated costs.
