SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Gov. Pat Quinn says Illinois is "one step closer" to marriage equality.
The Illinois Senate on Thursday approved a measure that would lift the state's ban on gay marriage. Quinn calls it "historic legislation." Quinn says the bill lets "all committed couples" have the legal protections and benefits of marriage.
Quinn urged the Illinois House of Representatives to pass the same legislation. The governor has said he will sign the measure.
