Quincy apartment hit by lightning during thundersnow

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Several parts of the Tri-States experienced the weather phenomenon known as thundersnow Thursday, but one apartment in Quincy was actually struck by lightning.

A chimney on a building at 11th and Jersey was hit around 11:30 a.m. Richard Harris was inside at the time and says he heard a loud boom and immediately went outside to see what happened.

He saw bricks laying on the ground and called his landlord, but his mom didn't wait for him to pick up the phone.

"She actually called me because she heard it. 'What did you tell her?' I told her everything was fine," said Harris.

Firefighters came by to check things out, but found no fire.
