(WGEM) -- Illinois State Police says area roads are snow packed and some barely passable.
Trooper Mike Kindhart says traffic on I-172 and 72 is still backed up in multiple places including westbound lanes near Barry and at mile post 25 where a semi truck has jack-knifed.
Traffic is also backed up on U.S. 36 near the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge.
Trooper Kindhart added that conditions are continuing to get worse.
"I understand people want to get home, but try to wait it out as long as possible," Kindhart said. "The more cars on the road, the harder it is to get it cleared off."
Earlier in the afternoon, traffic couldn't get up the hill on 96 at Rileys Curve. IL 107/US54 at I-72 had a jackknifed semi traffic and traffic was stopped all directions.
IL 57 has been almost impassable due to drifting snow.
