Conference Clash: QHS needs win at Rocky to share WB6 title

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- It wasn't too long ago, only three weeks as a matter of fact, when Quincy High was in the driver's seat to win the Western Big Six basketball title after winning it's first six conference games.

It's been tough sledding ever since.

Losses at Galesburg and Alleman as well as a setback against Moline at home has dropped Quincy High to (6-3) in the league.

However, they've still got a chance to share the conference championship with a win at Rock Island on Friday night.

"That's the beauty of it, how well we played in the first half of the season to now, where we still have a chance to go up there and win it at their place," senior guard Martin Kvitle told WGEM Sports.

"We all know what the challenge is, and it's up to us whether or not we're going to go out and win it."

"There's nothing more we can ask than having a chance to do that," added senior guard Mason Fairley.

"Tomorrow night will be a good test for us, and a good stepping stone moving into the regional."

Winning in hostile territory won't be an easy task, but the scene is nothing new for the Blue Devils.

"I think they're used to it," said Sean Taylor.

"Last year we were in the same situation, we played in the championship game at Christmas, we played in the championship game in the Thanksgiving Tournament, so these guys are used to playing games."

Regardless the outcome, Friday's game is also the last time Sean Taylor's team will suit up prior to regional's, and momentum is crucial as we inch closer to March.

"I think tomorrow night will play a key role in how we feel about ourselves," Taylor expressed.

"We're starting to play better in practice and we're starting to do some really good things in games but we're not as consistent as we need to be."

"Hopefully after tomorrow night we'll put 32 minutes of good basketball together and that'll give us great confidence going into next Tuesday."
