QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
Are you prepared for this next round of winter weather?
The Adams County Red Cross says a lot of people weren't prepared last week when the snow moved in.
Drivers are encouraged to put an emergency kit in their vehicles. Kate Rhoads with the Adams County Red Cross says must have items include water, food, blankets, clothing, sand or kitty litter for traction, and a cell phone charger.
"The Red Cross always recommends having ice melt, kitty litter, as well as a shovel in the vehicle to be able to get moving and get home safely," Rhoads said.
Even if you're not planning on traveling during the storm, what about getting out after?
"A lot of us got caught off guard being at work and maybe there were several inches of snow around our vehicle when we tried to make it home," Rhoads said. "So, having something like a shovel available to dig your car out so you can get home, if it's safe, is important to have."
Rhoads also says if you do leave your house Tuesday, make sure and tell family members or friends where you're going and what time you should be back.
