Former Knox Co. deputy pleads guilty to stealing from sheriff's office

EDINA, Mo. (WGEM) -

A former Knox County Sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty to theft charges for taking a police radio and selling it on eBay.

Howard Smith, 40, of Edina, also pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

Smith had been a sheriff's deputy until December 2011.

He was arrested in October after a Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation into the online sale of a police radio.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced May 10.
