New charges filed in January Hannibal shooting incident

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

New charges have been filed in a Hannibal shooting.

Martez Peete, 25, has been charged with first degree assault, a class B felony.

According to probable cause documents from the Marion County Circuit Clerk's office, Peete reportedly shot a man Jan. 28 in the 400 block of Arch Street during a failed drug deal.

The shooting victim told police he tried to knock crack cocaine out of Peete's hand when Peete pulled out a handgun and shot him. Authorities say friends took the victim to an apartment in Canton before calling for medical assistance.

Peete is scheduled to be back in court April 1.
