Lewis County voters to decide on road and bridge tax levy

LEWIS COUNTY, Missouri (WGEM) - Voters in Lewis County will decide in April if they want to renew a tax levy for road and bridge projects.

The ballot measure would continue a 21 cent tax levy for the highway department. Lewis County Northern Commissioner John Campen says if voters say no to the extension, it would mean many necessary projects would go undone.

"We wouldn't be able to maintain are roads and bridges near like anything that we have been," Campen said. We would have to let employees go and let equipment go and just go back to a bare bones roads and bridge operation which we don't want to see happen."

Scotland County and the City of LaBelle also have tax continuation measures supporting road improvements on the April ballot.
