Camp Point Police Chief retiring after 24 years

For the first time in 24 years, Camp Point has a new police chief.

On Tuesday night, the village board hired current officer Randy Mathewson.

He's going to replace Chief David Lantz who's retiring after serving the town for more than two decades. He says it's time to try something new.

Lantz's last day as police chief will be March 26th. Lantz says it's something he's going to have to get used to.

"It's going to be a lot different," said Lantz. "I'm going to miss dealing with the people on a day to day basis. I'm not going to miss the telephone calls on all hours of the day and night but, it's going to be different and I'm looking forward to it."

Lantz had also served as Camp Point's village administrator.
