The People's Choice: Palmyra's Parsons wins Coach of the Year

Palmyra's Chris Parsons is the 2013 People's Choice for WGEM High School Girls Basketball Coach of the year.

(WGEM) -- Palmyra's Chris Parsons is the 2013 People's Choice for WGEM High School Girls Basketball Coach of the year.

Parsons led the Lady Panthers to 24 wins, a district championship, and a state quarterfinal appearance in his first season at the helm.

It turned out to be without question one of the more memorable seasons in program history after starting the season 3-4, and went 21-2 from mid-December on.

A vote total that toppled 1,000 had Parsons earning more than 44%, followed by Illini West's Grant Surprenant who finished in second place with 33% of the vote.

QND's Eric Orne and Matt Long from Central/Southeastern round out the top four vote getters.

Thanks to all those who voted. WGEM Sports will feature Parsons Friday night on Sports Extra.
