Hannibal City Council debates turning road over to a private company

The issue to privatize a road to a company was first brought up to the City Council late last year.  City Manager Jeff LaGarce said very few people use roads near Printex, South of Warren Barrett Drive.

The only people who own land around it are the city and Printex Owner Randy Park.  LaGarce said he's in favor of blocking off this road to the public because the city doesn't need to pay for roads not being used.

"I say the supply of road funds and the demand to fix roads, we are better off putting our resources into roads that serve people who need fixing and perhaps looking at abandoning streets that no longer have any public function," LaGarce said.

He said a final decision could be made at the next city council meeting.
