Quincy High senior Kyle Kahs returned to the line-up for the first time since 2011 on Monday night, following a head injury during his sophomore season.

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -- It was 2011, and Kyle Kahs, a sophomore at the time, had just started his pitching career at Quincy High School.

With one swing of the bat everything changed.

In a late season game against Moline a line drive back to the mound struck Kahs in the head and knocked him out cold.

Physically Kyle would eventually be OK, but mentally, effects were hard to erase from his mind.

"My sophomore year after the injury I came back for one game against QND, I was kind of jittery," Kahs told WGEM Sports.

It was a mental barrier that took more than just time to overcome.

"My (coaches and teammates) were just there all the time. They were a great confidence booster, they always picked me up and never left my side."

On Monday night he returned to the mound for the first time in nearly two years as QHS took on Hannibal.

Kahs went six strong innings only allowing a single run, and more importantly, felt like himself again.

"It felt really good to get out there," Kahs expressed.

"I've been out of the pitching game for about two years, and to come back this strong it really means a lot. It feels great."

Returning to baseball wasn't easy, but it was also a game changer for the more important things to come

"It's a life experience to be able to come back from something like that and feel stronger than you were before," he said.

"It doesn't just help with my confidence in baseball, it helps out with my confidence in life."

Hannibal won the game on Monday 1-0 but Kyle Kahs appears to be back, and better than ever.
