Students who will be entering kindergarten are being encouraged to attend Quincy Public School's Kindergarten Roundup.
Parents will bring their kids to visit the school they're set to attend in the fall. They will meet the staff, as well as other kids and parents, and get all the information they need for registration, physicals, and shots.
While you aren't required to take your child, Madison School principal Jim Sohn says there are lots of benefits to showing up.
"View our school. Meet the teachers that their kids will potentially have. And it gives the teachers here the opportunity to look at the kids that are going to be coming into our building. Give them the opportunity to have a task in the classroom. To interact with their kindergarten kids now."
If you are worried that you might not have the time, Sohn says many parents don't even take off work the full day. It's something he says you can get in and out of in about an hour.
If they're nervous, Sohn says it's best to just try and prepare them.
"Do a little playground recess time with them. Give them a snack. And just try to prepare them. Welcome them to our building and getting a good flavor of where they're going to be going as kindergartners."
Kindergarten teacher Kathy Taylor says it's not just an exciting day for the little ones.
"Of course come of them think that they are going to start kindergarten when they come to school but it's fun to see the excitement in their eyes so it's contagious. Their excitement."
If parents don't know the school district boundaries, they can call the transportation department at 224-5910.
