The Adams County Sheriff's Office says two male toddlers were found walking on Broadway unattended Friday near the Royal Oaks Mobile Home Park.
Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer says a passerby noticed two boys between the ages of one and three walking in the 6800 block of Broadway around 11 a.m.
That passerby was Annette Bruns, a salesperson at nearby Shottenkirk Toyota, said she and a customer were test driving a car and saw the toddlers playing in the street. Bruns said they stopped immediately and pulled the kids to safety.
She said when she ran into the middle of the street, the kids actually ran further away from her into traffic.
Bruns says the boys were absolutely filthy when she found them. One was only wearing a diaper, the other had pajamas on. Deputies searched the area for the toddlers' parents and found them about an hour later.
Sgt. Dale Holt told WGEM News that the boys and their father do not live in the trailer park, but were staying family members. Sgt. Holt also said deputies on the scene were told that the father had fallen asleep when the boys walked outside.
The children were released to the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services as the investigation continues. There are no criminal charges being filed at this time, but Sgt. Holt says that could change if DCFS officials come back and request further action.
