Hannibal boat ramp shut down for repairs

One of the busiest river access points in the Tri-States is shut down.

The boat ramp at the Hannibal marina is undergoing a $12,000 improvement project. Hannibal Parks and Recreation Director Andy Dorian says the ramp has suffered through a lot of wear and tear over the years and some sinkholes have even developed, causing liability issues.

"It's constant, people in and out of here. I mean that was one of the biggest reasons for dredging the marina but the boat ramp is very well used. It's used by any kind of boater, fishermen that uses the river here in Hannibal," said Dorian.

Construction is expected to last one to two weeks depending on the weather. The next closest river access point is at the John Hay Recreation Area boat ramp on Route 106 near East Hannibal on the Illinois side.
