Hundreds of people grabbed garbage bags and hit the streets of Keokuk Saturday morning.
The Earth Day Volunteer Cleanup was hosted by the Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce.
Groups of 3 to 5 people were given designated areas of the city to pick up trash.
Organizers say they want make sure their city looks its best for the upcoming Civil War Reenactment.
"We expect a lot of people to come into town for the Civil War reenactment and so for tourism and economic development. Just in general we want to have a nice, clean beautiful city," said organizer Aliza Golan.
The Civil War Reenactment kicks off April 26th and runs through the 28th.
