The cause of an early morning house fire in Fort Madison remains undetermined.
This all happened at around 4:30 Sunday morning at 1302 Avenue I in Fort Madison. Fort Madison Fire Chief Joey Herren says the fire started in the kitchen, and that when crews first arrived on the scene, they were met with heavy smoke and fire. They called in all off duty personnel, and were on the scene for over two hours.
Firefighters say there were residents inside at the time of the fire, but firefighters say everyone made it out safely. The Lee County Red Cross reports they are now providing assistance to two adults and two children from this fire.
Officers say the investigation into this fire is ongoing.
