QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM)-- Widely considered the premiere outdoor 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the entire country, only five weeks are left before Gus Macker invades Quincy.
The downtown streets will be filled with all things hoops. From young to old and skilled to not-so-skilled, it's a weekend practically unmatched around Washington Park.
Macker officials are stressing a family-friendly event and encourage basketball fans of all ages to take in the festivities. Gus Macker himself says the focus of the tournament is making it entertaining for everyone.
"I always think when you play in a Macker tournament there's something magical about the community coming together and people enjoying the site. It's just works here very well, and knock on wood we'll continue to keep coming back," says Gus Macker tournament founder Scott McNeal.
"I think that's why I like the Quincy feel, it's nice. (Washington) Park and the streets around it is different, if I was playing in a parking lot somewhere in the middle of a city it may not have the feel that (Quincy) does. I think it's the quaintness and it's just worked out well."
Gus Macker will be in Quincy during Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26.
The cost is $140 per team and you can register by visiting WGEM.com/Macker.
