Lewis County Sheriff's Office investigating recent car break-ins

Lewis County authorities are asking residents for information regarding a string of car break-ins Monday morning near Canton.

Sheriff David Parrish says four break-ins that occurred off Route 16 and Route 81 were reported Monday.  The crimes occurred approximately between midnight and 9:30 a.m., and three of those vehicles had items taken from them.

Parrish believes the break-ins are linked.

"The cars were not locked," Parrish said. "We believe these were crimes of opportunity. They were just looking for cash or anything else they could just quickly take."

Sheriff Parrish says he also believes there were more vehicles broken into than the four reported.

"If you notice anything out of place or out of the ordinary, call our office," Parrish said. "There's a good chance they went through other vehicles."

If you have any information regarding the break-ins, call the Lewis County Sheriff's Office at (573) 767-5287.
